Movies that were shown at the Regent Theatre (Edwardes Street location)

When the Regent Theatre business left Town Hall in the 1950’s, it was re-established at a brand-new building on Edwardes Street in 1956 where it remained until closing in the early 2000’s.

Patrick O’Halloran put in an application in 1951 for a theatre to be built in Edwardes Street with a proposed seating accommodation of 980 people, this new theatre would replace the Lyceum Theatre/Hall.

The theatre opened on December 19, 1956, with ‘Meet Me in Las Vegas’ the opening movie, it starred Cyd Charisse, Dan Dailey, Lena Horne and others including a cameo appearance by Frank Sinatra.

The building is now the Deniliquin Baptist Church, but the façade and interior have traces of the building’s original purpose including a collection of memorabilia of the Theatre’s existence.
