The old Deniliquin R.S.S.I.L.A and Community Centre – August/September 2023

If you loved the old R.S.S.I.L.A building (RSL Club) that turned into the Community Centre on End Street, you might not want to look at these photos because it is a pretty sad sight.

The side of the building has seen better days, so has Burchfield’s.

Historical photos of Deniliquin turned into art on a building that is also historic yet in ruins, too bad it is not in great shape, the two would have complemented each other.

The front door of the old Community Centre is now prettied up with artwork, so are the windows.

At the back of the building, there is a black cat ruling the roost with some pigeons up above it, there seems to be just one intact window up there, guess the front end of the building is the one that most tourists would bother looking at.

The right side of the building, hardly a window is intact, walk past the place and you’ll hear what you think are voices, but it is just the colony of birds making some noise and their noise echoes through the building.

A better look at the right side, a wall is missing, it looks like some tiles have survived the ‘fun’ that has taken place in there, why do people destroy things? It was tempting to go in and have a look, but it isn’t my property.

Back in the R.S.S.I.L.A days (now RSL) this was the front door, it was a lot better looking back in the day, there is a lot of glass on the ground and there’s cat food and water laid out, so somebody cares about the animals there.

Behind the building (or in front of if you go by this end), the park looks in great condition, too bad the ERC won’t wander over a few metres and give the grass a tidy up.

So, this how the building looked like in August and September 2023, we’ll check back in a year and see how things are.
