Deniliquin lost a great man on May 15, 2024, Brendan Green was a friend to many in Deniliquin and surrounding areas, he had also served as a North School Prefect in Term 4, 1998, his responsibility was Environment and the job with his committee was keeping North School clean and the gardens green and he had done the job well, he could also make the school computers run better than anybody at North could teachers included, if Brendan couldn’t fix it, nobody can.
He went through school with skill and humbleness, he didn’t boast, he didn’t gloat, he went to class, done the class and went off to eat, be with friends and have a Big M and when school was done, he worked on things with the same skill and humbleness from businesses to car restoration and maintenance to schools that needed his skills.
For the above and other reasons such as having a lasting impact on the town, Brendan deserves his place in the local history here.
The following is a tribute written by members of the Class of 1998 at North School and the Class of 2004 at Deniliquin High School.
In loving memory of a young man who left us far too soon. A beautiful soul who touched the lives of many. This tribute is dedicated to a kind, caring, and thoughtful individual who always made time for others.
Brendan Green. You, dear friend, were a beacon of light in the lives of those around you. Your kindness knew no bounds, and your genuine care for others was evident in every interaction. Whether it was lending a listening ear, offering words of comfort, or simply being there for someone in need, you consistently showed compassion and empathy.
Your presence was a gift to everyone who knew you. Your smile could brighten even the darkest of days, and your warm heart brought comfort to those who were struggling. You never hesitated to extend a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on, and your generosity of spirit was truly remarkable.
It is with heavy hearts that we reflect on the pain you carried, the battles you fought silently. We wish we could have eased your burden, as you did for so many others. We want you to know that you were loved, deeply and unconditionally, by countless individuals whose lives you touched. The impact you made will forever be etched in our hearts.
We mourn the loss of a remarkable human being, but we also celebrate the incredible legacy you leave behind. Your kindness and selflessness will continue to inspire us to be better, to be more compassionate, and to cherish the connections we have with one another.
We will always think of you when we see a computer, when we hear ‘Devil Gate Drive’ playing on some device or seeing somebody squashing a nearly empty Big M carton on concrete sending the contents splattering everywhere and creating a colourful mess or seeing a garden that’s full of colour and good health.
The late race driver and team owner Bruce McLaren once said that ‘I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone’ these words are true as Brendan had done and achieved so much in life no matter if the achievement was big or if it was small, it was done and it was done well enough, kind enough and humble enough for it to be remembered decades after it was first seen.
In your memory, we pledge to spread love and kindness, to reach out to those who may be silently struggling, and to remind them that they are not alone. May your spirit find peace, and may your memory be a beacon of hope for those who face their own battles.
Rest in peace, dear friend. You will be forever loved and deeply missed.
