The old Deniliquin R.S.S.I.L.A and Community Centre – October 2024

We returned to the site in October 2024 to see if anything had changed since our last look.

The alley between the old Community Centre and the former Burchfield’s workshop has been blocked off since our last visit.

It appears that another window has been smashed at the top of the building leaving none of the windows intact.

The grass in front of and to the sides of the building are still high, it’s probably not safe with all the shattered glass on the pavement.

Additional graffiti has been left on the boarded up front doors of the building, it covers the message left from c2023.

The building is not 100% secure from vandals, explorers or animals, the side can still be accessed as the wire is peeled back, somebody is taking care of the cat population around the building.

There is little doubt that this building is in a death spiral, if something isn’t done to reverse damage soon then it is a question of when the building will be put out of its misery.

Demolition, collapse or arson will be the likely causes of death of this once proud building, a former jewel in Deniliquin’s crown, a place where those who faced the horrors of war could get together and later on a place where the community gathered for various activities.
