The fire at Deniliquin High School in November 2025 made us think about the place over the years and we went looking through old hard drives for photos, it is always interesting to us to see the evolution of a place like a school, there’s new buildings, new paint schemes, new basketball/netball courts, trees coming and going etc.

In 2013, You didn’t have to stick your camera or a phone through a high fence like you do these days, the fences were low, so decent pictures were possible.

You can see the blue railing in this picture, thousands of people’s hands touched those as they were going up or down the stairs to go to Maths or Modern History or any of the other classes that section would have if going up and going to classes or to lunch etc. if going down.
Check out the simple barrier around the tank, that would later be fenced off, many schools had their tanks in easy reach, thankfully nobody decided to do something heinous with them.

Some may think this section of the school didn’t look like much, but it was much nicer on the inside especially the library and going up into the Year 12 section, the interconnecting sections of the school also let you watch the world go by below you.

The tree in the foreground is now gone, all the trees that lined Wellington Street and Henry Street are gone, new trees were put in 2025, admittedly the old ones were ugly trees though it was always nice to see them.

Here is another look at the Henry Street end, you can see the doors that would lead to the office which was to the left.

The basketball courts in 2013 looked good, of course they were pretty fresh when this picture was taken as the old ones can be seen on Google Earth images from 2012.

You can see where the old Deniliquin High School lettering used to be, have to admit, the old trees that lined the Wellington Street side of the school did make the area a little on the ugly side, the school emblem was added on the wall later and you can still see the faded ‘Deniliquin High School’ on the wall in 2025.
So, there we have it, a look at the school from back in 2013, next year we will look at the school and note the changes, we just wish that the changes we will see were not fire enforced and was instead a construction necessity due to age or building wear and tear.
